Trailer Rental Des Moines IA
Richie Bros Junk Removal drops a dump trailer in your driveway, leaves it for your project, and hauls it away with the debris inside. No permits to chase, no steel rails scratching your concrete, no surprise dump fees at the end.
We offer 10 and 15 cubic yard trailers to match the scope of your job – whether it’s a single-room cleanout, a kitchen remodel, a roof tear-off, or a full-house purge. We serve Des Moines, Urbandale, West Des Moines, Clive, Johnston, Ankeny, and the surrounding metro.
Need help getting the debris out first? Our light demolition crew can handle the demo and load it straight into your rental trailer.

Trailer Rental vs. Roll-Off Dumpster
A roll-off dumpster works well for very large, multi-week construction jobs. For most homeowner projects and short contractor jobs, a dump trailer is the easier, less expensive, less disruptive option. Here is an honest comparison.
| Dump Trailer Rental (Richie Bros) | Roll-Off Dumpster | |
|---|---|---|
| Placement | Sits on rubber tires in your driveway | Steel rails on driveway or street |
| Driveway damage risk | Lower – weight is distributed across tires | Higher – steel skids can scratch or crack concrete |
| City permits | Usually not required for driveway placement | Often required for street placement |
| Load height | Lower walls, easier to load by hand | Taller walls, loading over the side is harder by hand |
| Capacity | 10 or 15 cubic yards | 10–40 cubic yards |
| Best for | DIY remodels, cleanouts, garage purges, single-day projects, small-crew contractor jobs | Multi-week construction sites, full-home demos, very large loads |
| Drop-off vehicle | Pickup or flatbed (quieter, smaller footprint) | Roll-off truck (large, loud) |
Not sure which one fits? Call us – we’ll tell you straight even if it means recommending a roll-off.

Dump Trailer Rental Pricing
Pick the trailer that fits the scope of your project. We offer two sizes and serve both residential and contractor customers. Call or text 515-822-6322 if you’re not sure which size to rent.

10 cubic yard trailer – $275
Good for garage cleanouts, single-room purges, small deck teardowns, and yard waste.
Holds roughly 3-4 pickup truck loads of debris. Best for single-room cleanouts, small remodels, garage and basement purges, small bathroom tear-outs, and yard cleanups. Fits standard residential driveways.
* Rents for 3 to 7 days. Delivery, pickup, and disposal up to 1 ton (2,000 lbs) are included.

15 Cubic Yard Trailer – $350
Good for multi-room cleanouts, basement clear-outs, move-outs, and mid-size remodels.
Holds roughly 5-6 pickup truck loads of debris. Best for full-house cleanouts, larger remodels, roof tear-offs, multi-room demo, and contractor projects. Still fits most driveways.
* Rents for 3 to 7 days. Delivery, pickup, and disposal up to 1 ton (2,000 lbs) are included. The weight allowance is the same as the 10 yard, so the extra space is for bulky material rather than heavy debris.
Trailer Rental Volume vs. Weight
Volume and weight are two separate limits, and the weight limit is the one that catches people out. A trailer can hit 2,000 lbs while it still looks half empty.
The usual culprits are roofing shingles, concrete, brick, dirt, tile, plaster, and wet or frozen yard waste. A single square of asphalt shingles runs roughly 250 lbs, so a full tear-off will pass a ton long before the trailer looks full. Same story with a bathroom tile demo or a load of dirt from a landscaping job.
Standard household junk, furniture, cardboard, lumber, and brush are far lighter. Most cleanout loads stay under the limit without much thought.
Worth knowing: both trailers include the same 1 ton allowance. Renting the 15 yard gives you five more cubic yards of room, not more weight. If you’re clearing shingles or concrete, the bigger trailer won’t buy you a bigger disposal allowance.
If your project is heavy debris, tell us before you book. We’ll give you a straight estimate of where you’ll land so the overage isn’t a surprise, and we’ll tell you whether two lighter loads or one load plus the overage works out better for your job.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Questions about trailer rental? Browse the FAQs below, or contact us directly for help sizing a trailer for your project.
Is a dump trailer the same thing as a dumpster?
Functionally, yes – it’s a container you fill with debris and we haul away. The differences are how it gets to you, how it sits on your property, and what kind of jobs it fits. Our trailer arrives on rubber tires, sits in your driveway without scratching the concrete, and doesn’t require a city permit for most residential placements.
Will the trailer damage my driveway?
The trailer sits on rubber tires that distribute the weight, which is gentler on a driveway than a steel roll-off dumpster. We can also place boards or mats under the tires on request.
Do I need a permit?
Not for placement in your own driveway in most Des Moines metro cities. If we need to place the trailer on the street, you may need a permit from your city – we’ll let you know during scheduling.
How long can I keep the trailer?
Rentals run 3 to 7 days. Tell us how long you need when you book and we’ll schedule the pickup for the end of that window. If you finish early, call or text and we’ll come get it sooner. If the project runs past a week, call us and we’ll work something out.
What can I put in the trailer?
Most household and renovation debris is fine, including:
- General household junk and clutter
- Furniture, mattresses, and appliances that don’t contain refrigerant (washers, dryers, ranges, dishwashers)
- Cabinets, doors, drywall, flooring, and remodel debris
- Yard waste, brush, sod, and storm debris
- Roofing shingles, underlayment, and tear-off material
- Construction materials: lumber, trim, packaging, insulation
If you’re not sure about an item, call us before you load it.
What can’t I put in the trailer?
By Iowa disposal regulations, the following are not allowed:
- Hazardous waste (paint, solvents, pesticides, motor oil, asbestos)
- Wet concrete, tires, batteries
- Refrigerant appliances (fridges, freezers, AC units, dehumidifiers) and pressurized cylinders such as propane and helium
- Medical waste
- Flammables and explosives
We can usually arrange a separate pickup or point you to the right disposal facility for restricted items.
Fridges, freezers, and AC units can go on a separate full-service pickup, where the refrigerant recovery fee is handled for you.
Do you charge extra dump fees at the end?
Disposal is included up to 1 ton (2,000 lbs). We weigh every load at the transfer station, so if yours goes over we bill the difference at $58/ton and tell you before it’s disposed of. Most household loads stay under the limit. Heavy debris like shingles, concrete, dirt, and tile is what pushes a load over.
Can you swap the trailer mid-project?
Yes. Contractors on multi-day jobs often fill a trailer before the work is done. We’ll haul the full one, drop an empty, and bill the swap as another trailer rental. Schedule swaps in advance where you can so we can keep a trailer on your site.
Do I need to be home for drop-off and pickup?
No. As long as we have a clear path to the driveway and know where you’d like the trailer placed, we can drop and pick up without you on-site.
Do you serve Clive, Johnston, Ankeny, and West Des Moines?
Yes. We serve the full Des Moines metro service area including Clive (50325), Johnston (50131), Ankeny (50023), and West Des Moines (50266).
How fast can you drop one off?
Same-day and next-day availability when our schedule allows. Call or text 515-822-6322 to check the current calendar.
